Job summary

Manassas Park City Schools at Cougar Elementary School seeks an Instructional Assistant – ESOL to support multilingual learners and help them access grade-level curriculum. You will assist students with language development under the direction of licensed teachers and administrators and work to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.

You will collaborate with ESOL teachers and classroom staff to reinforce English language development and foster strong relationships with families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Passing ParaPro Assessment within 30 days of hire.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with parents, students, staff, and community.
• Knowledge of the school's Spanish-speaking community.
• Bilingual proficiency is preferred but not required.
• Ability to support students with diverse backgrounds.
• Follow written and verbal instructional and behavioral plans.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all policies and regulations.
• Support English Learners individually, in small groups, or in class under licensed staff.
• Reinforce English language development across listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
• Assist students in understanding instruction and developing independent language skills.
• Prepare, organize, and adapt instructional materials for language development.
• Assist with instructional strategies for multilingual learners.
• Assist with classroom organization and daily operations.
• Observe, monitor, and document student progress and behavior.
• Support behavior management and supervise students during activities.
• Maintain records, instructional materials, attendance, and supplies.
• Provide instructional coverage during teacher absences.
• Support multiple classrooms or instructional settings as needed.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development.
• Foster positive relationships with students, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain confidentiality as required by laws and policy.
• Perform clerical and related duties to support school operations.
