• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• Massachusetts Educator License required; Reading Specialist certification preferred.
• Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by Methuen Public Schools.
• Current authorization to work in the United States by start date.
• Attend district/state professional development opportunities to stay current with instruction and teaching strategies.
• Able to model excellent spoken and written English for students learning English in school.
• Experience teaching in an urban setting.
• MPS values linguistic diversity and values candidates fluent in high-incident languages: Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese or Somali.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small group literacy instruction to identified students.
• Collaborate with content teachers to align instruction and support for EL students' language development and classroom needs.
• Collaborate with instructional leadership and administration to ensure language support and academic assistance.
• Deliver push-in/pull-out lessons for students with varying proficiency levels.
• Assist with testing administration oversight and delivery.
• Deliver appropriate lessons for varying levels of English proficiency.
• Demonstrate culturally proficient instructional practices and integrate technology as a tool.
• Set ambitious learning goals, create cognitively demanding tasks, and model belief that all students can master challenging material.
• Assess students' understanding regularly and adjust instruction to reach goals.
• Engage in reflective practice, seek feedback, and participate in a collaborative adult learning community.
