Job summary

Capital Group is seeking an ESG Stewardship Analyst to join the Global Stewardship and Engagement team. The role blends proxy research, engagement activities, and governance research to support informed investment decisions and responsible stewardship of client assets.

The analyst will produce governance research throughout the year, collaborate with Investment Analysts, Portfolio Managers, and ESG colleagues, and participate in industry events to share insights and strengthen capital governance

Responsibilities

• Prepare company and sector-level research and apply proxy voting guidelines with appropriate judgment.
• Demonstrate detail orientation in analysis of proxy voting ballot items and ensure timely reporting.
• Utilize effective decision quality when elevating proxy votes for Investment Group review.
• Escalate trends and provide recommendations to senior members for guideline committee consideration.
• Build credibility with the investment group through value-added contributions to the proxy voting process.
• Identify voting operations risks and propose enhancements to procedures.
• Collaborate with senior Stewardship associates during issuer engagements to deepen understanding.
• Partner with more senior team members on internal research requests and training materials.
• Share articles and notes from webcasts and industry events with the team.
• Identify market trends and incorporate knowledge into key initiatives and recommendations.

About this Role

The ESG Stewardship Analyst role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Capital Group’s investment process as a member of the Global Stewardship and Engagement (GSE) team, a specialized subset of the ESG team. This position combines proxy research, engagement activities, and governance research to support informed investment decision-making and responsible stewardship of client assets. The Stewardship Analyst is responsible for conducting comprehensive proxy research that culminates in proxy voting recommendations presented to the Investment Group. Additionally, the role involves engaging with portfolio companies on stewardship priorities and managing proxy voting operational responsibilities. The analyst will produce and publish high-quality, investment-relevant governance research throughout the year, independent of proxy-focused work, contributing to the broader knowledge base and market understanding of governance best practices. The analyst in this role works collaboratively with Investment Analysts, Portfolio Managers, and ESG team members to conduct sector- and industry-specific research on governance best practices and standards. The position demonstrates strong working knowledge of Capital Group’s proxy voting guidelines and operates with increasing autonomy as experience develops. The individual displays a comprehensive understanding of the proxy voting and engagement cycle and may represent Capital Group at industry events to share insights, best practices, and process enhancements with the stewardship community.

• Demonstrate detail orientation in analysis of proxy voting ballot items, ensuring voting decisions are transmitted to the market in a timely and accurate manner
• Utilize effective decision quality when elevating proxy votes for Investment Group review and manage proxy voting operational responsibilities, including recommendations for resolution
• Demonstrate appropriate knowledge in the application of proxy voting guidelines, escalating relevant trends and making recommendations in a timely manner to senior members for guideline committee consideration
• Build credibility with the investment group over time, providing value-added contributions to the proxy voting process
• Demonstrate strong risk awareness by understanding voting operations risks, controls, and team policies and procedures; proactively identify enhancements and promptly elevate issues when needed
• Actively build sector and company expertise by collaborating with senior Stewardship associates during issuer engagements, contributing informed perspectives and deepening understanding through direct participation
• Partner with more senior team members in standalone research efforts based on internal requests in areas of familiarity
• Participate in developing training materials around specific topics that increase the team’s knowledge base
• Consistently share articles and notes from webcasts and industry events with the team
