Job summary

The University of Houston Technology Services & Support is seeking an experienced network professional to design, install, and maintain enterprise LAN/WAN and wireless networks for voice, data, and video services.

The role requires monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving network issues, developing standards, and leading project teams. Security awareness and on-call rotations may be required; a 4-year degree or equivalent experience is considered.

Description:

Installs and maintains a large, enterprise LAN / WAN / Wirelessenvironment that provides voice, data and video services. Designsnetwork architecture, implements network policy, and analyzesperformance. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No.GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access tocritical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain thesecurity or integrity of the University infrastructure. Thisposition requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determinewhether or not criminal history or continuous connections for thegovernment or political apparatus of a foreign adversary mightprevent the employee from being able to maintain the security orintegrity of the infrastructure.

  • 1. Designs, installs, supports and maintains complex LAN/WANand/or Wireless networks and network systems.
  • 2. Monitors and analyzes performance, utilization andavailability of LAN/WAN and/or Wireless networks.
  • 3. Identifies, diagnoses and resolves technical problems relatedto network failure/integrity and in support of efficient networkoperations.
  • 4. Develops, recommends and implements network standards andpolicies, monitors compliance with established standards.
  • 5. Evaluates and recommends networking product and softwareupgrades and improvements.
  • 6. Compiles performance metrics and provides reports tomanagement.
  • 7. Consults with and advises Network Operations staff and maylead technical support staff for assigned projects.
  • 8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Department is willing to accept experience in lieu ofeducation.

MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical andpractical aspects of an analytical, technical or professionaldiscipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professionaldiscipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtainedthrough a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a collegeor university or an equivalent in-depth specialized trainingprogram that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed.

Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-relatedexperience.

Additional Posting Information:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior workenvironment but may involve moderate exposure to unpleasantelements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt dust, fumes, smoke,loud noises, chemicals, etc. May involve routine exposure to soiledmaterials and light chemical substances such as cleaningsolutions.

Position requires moderate physical activity as this is a fieldanalyst position. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to25 pounds or stranding and/or walking for long periods of time(more than 4 hours per day).

Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks thatrequire following basic safety precautions (such as climbingladders and working at heights up to 20 feet or more).

This position will require being on an on-call rotation with theother analysts on the team. It will also require participation inthe “Ride Out Team” rotation.

All positions at the University of Houston-System are securitysensitive and will require a criminal history check.
