Job summary

Charles Schwab is hiring in Schwab Retirement Plan Services to provide ERISA compliance testing and reporting for large employer plans, liaising with ERISA Consulting, external clients, and Relationship Managers on complex testing within statutory timelines.

Ideal candidates have 4–7 years in qualified retirement plans, strong Excel, and project leadership abilities, with ASPPA QKA/QPA/CPC designation preferred. Schwab offers a hybrid/work model, competitive benefits, and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 4-7 years in the qualified retirement plan industry with ERISA testing experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of IRS & DOL Code and Regulations, complex non-discrimination testing (e.g., 401(a)(4), 410(b), 414(s)).
  • Excellent problem-solving, written and verbal communication, strong Excel skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Project leadership experience and ability to liaise with clients and auditors.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ADP/ACP testing, Top Heavy testing, Coverage testing, Form 5500 and Form 8955-SSA within statutory timelines.
  • Lead complex ERISA compliance testing projects and coordinate with ERISA Consulting, clients, and Relationship Managers.
  • Assist with allocations of employer contributions and specialized testing.
  • Serve as a resource and quality reviewer for junior staff and assign project leadership tasks.

Schwab Retirement Plan Services provides third‑party recordkeeping and retirement plan administration to midsized and large employers nationwide. Schwab believes that the provider matters, and we are committed to the financial fitness of all participants and clients. We assist plan sponsors to ensure that the plans are operated in accordance with the Internal Revenue Code and ERISA, following the IRS & DOL regulations and the plan provisions.

What You Are Good At
  • Preparing ADP/ACP testing, Top Heavy testing, Coverage testing, 401(a)(4) Nondiscrimination testing, Form 5500 and Form 8955-SSA within the statutory timelines established by the code.
  • Performing tests on the largest most complex plans, and functioning as a primary liaison with ERISA Consulting, external clients and Relationship Managers for more complex ERISA compliance testing issues.
  • Assisting clients with preparation of allocations of employer contributions and specialized testing.
  • Partnering closely with Relationship Management and other teams to assist with higher level client issues and to assist with external auditor requests.
  • Serving as direct contact with plan sponsors and their external auditors to add value and retain clients.
  • Leading efforts to improve, develop, implement training programs and procedures.
  • Serving as a resource for less experienced staff and complete peer review of assigned work.
  • Taking on additional project leadership responsibilities.

Required Qualifications
  • 4-7 years in the qualified retirement plan industry, with significant direct experience in providing ERISA compliance testing and reporting services.
  • Thorough knowledge of the IRS & DOL Code and Regulations, and experience with complex non‑discrimination testing, including 401(a)(4), 410(b), and 414(s).
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, high comfort level with Microsoft Excel, and ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Project Leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Math or Finance.
  • ASPPA QKA, QPA or CPC Designation.
  • Experience with Actuarial Systems Corporation (ASC) Testing/5500 software.
