Job summary

MedVet is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-growing emergency and specialty team. You will work in a dynamic ER, assisting with patient assessments, anesthesia, lab work, and collaboration with the care team.

The ideal candidate has veterinary technician credentials (license preferred), prior ER experience, strong calculations skills, and excellent communication. This on-site role offers competitive benefits and opportunities for growth within MedVet’s network.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Flexibility with work hours; able to work additional hours when necessary.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside labs.
