Job summary

Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists in Hoffman Estates, IL, seeks a Relief Certified Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency and Critical Care team. This role supports DVMs and nursing staff during rounds, diagnoses, treatments, and patient monitoring to ensure rapid, compassionate care for critically ill pets.

We value advanced nursing skills, high-flow oxygen and ventilator support, and accurate dosages.

Qualifications

• CVT or eligible for CVT credential with relevant experience.
• Competent basic and advanced technician skills preferred (phlebotomy, radiographs, etc.).
• Advanced nursing care and CPR proficiency desirable.

Responsibilities

• Attend hospital rounds.
• Obtain morning diagnostics with nursing team.
• Support DVM and nursing team with updates to owners.
• Assist with patient treatments and outpatient hospitalization.
• Educate clients, manage discharges and follow-up questions.
• Assist with recheck exams, diagnostics and medical history.
• Perform and monitor anesthetic procedures.
• Monitor ICU inventory and high-flow/ventilator care.
• Prepare estimates and discuss with clients.
• Float to other departments as needed for critical patients.
• Calculate dosages/CRIs and coordinate prescriptions.
