Job summary

Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists—Hoffman Estates seeks a Relief Certified Veterinary Technician or experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency/Critical Care team. Responsibilities include rounds, diagnostics, treatments, client education, discharge planning, anesthesia support, and critical care management.

Experience with CPCR and ventilators is preferred. Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience, with starting hourly pay from $27–$35.

Qualifications

• CVT or eligible, students welcome, experienced assistants encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency in advanced nursing care and procedures (ventilators, high flow oxygen, etc.).
• Strong CPR and critical care recognition required.

Responsibilities

• Attend hospital rounds.
• Obtain morning diagnostics with nursing team.
• Support DVM and nursing team with morning updates to owners.
• Assist nursing team with patient treatments.
• Facilitate treatments and hospitalization of outpatient cases.
• Primary role with client education and discharges.
• Assist with recheck exams and medical history.
• Perform and monitor anesthetic procedures (CT scans).
• Monitor inventory for critical care and ICU.
• Prepare estimates and discuss with clients.
• Assist with critical patients and float to other departments.
• Set up, monitor high-flow and ventilator patients.
• Calculate dosages/CRIs.
• Delegate responsibilities to team members.
• Contact for referring veterinarians if DVM unavailable.
• Create clinical records and document vital signs.
• Coordinate prescription refills and communications.
