Job summary

Animal Emergency Clinic and Intensive Care Facility in Shreveport, Louisiana seeks an experienced Veterinary Technician to join a supportive, mission-driven team. The role involves triage, lab work, imaging, anesthesia, and surgical assistance, with a focus on high-quality patient care in a busy emergency setting.

Responsibilities include client communication, medical record management, and adherence to hospital protocols.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year professional veterinary technician experience.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician preferred.
  • Weekend and overnight shifts required.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management.
  • ER/Urgent care experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with animal hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Restrain animals and triage incoming patients.
  • Collect and analyze lab samples; perform diagnostics.
  • Perform radiographs and assist in imaging.
  • Provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases.
  • Administer medications and monitor anesthesia during surgery.
  • Communicate treatment plans clearly to clients.

Welcome to Animal Emergency Clinic and Intensive Care Facility in Shreveport, Louisiana! Our practice isn`t your typical ER- here, you'll be part of a tight-knit team who support one another and treat every patient like their own. The nature of Emergency and Critical Care medicine does require weekends and some overnight shifts. Our hospital provides care for the pets of Shreveport after hours during the week and around the clock from Saturday - Monday morning.

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications
  • A an experiencedVeterinary Technician with1+ year professional experience required.
    • A Registered Veterinary Technician would be preferred, but is not required for this position.
  • Previous ER / Urgent Care experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts.
  • Availability to work weekends and overnights is required.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens.
  • Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
  • Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.
