Job summary

Alliance Animal Health in North Carolina seeks an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support emergency and routine care. You will assist with restraint, triage, sample collection, radiography, anesthesia management, and client communication in a fast-paced clinic.

Responsibilities include nursing care, medication administration, surgical prep, and collaboration with the team. ER experience preferred, 2+ years in veterinary assistance required; nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of veterinary assistant experience.
  • ER experience preferred but not required for more experienced applicants.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Compassionate, calm, and reliable team player.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record skills.
  • Knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Expertise in safe, low-stress animal restraint.

Responsibilities

  • Restrain animals safely for procedures and exams.
  • Triage incoming patients and support triage decisions.
  • Collect and analyze lab samples.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures and assist.
  • Provide nursing care and manage hospitalized cases.
  • Administer medications and manage treatments.
  • Communicate treatment plans clearly to clients.
  • Prepare for surgery and assist during procedures.
  • Assist with anesthesia management and monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance.

Job description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Animal restraint
  • triage of incoming patients
  • collection and analysis of lab samples
  • diagnostic imaging
  • management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability
  • administration of medications
  • effective communication of treatment plans with clients
  • surgical preparation and assistance
  • anesthetic management

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

We're looking for:

  • An experienced veterinary assistant with a minimum of 2+ year experience required .
  • ER experience is highly preferred , however it is not required for more experienced applicants.
  • Due to the nature of Emergency Medicine, this position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Compassionate and calm team-player.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
  • Knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens
  • Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.

Pay Range: $18 - $22/hr. depending on experience level and licensure
