Job summary

MedVet in Lexington, KY is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician to join a fast-paced ER team. You will work closely with DVMs and nursing staff to triage, monitor, and treat critically ill patients, while communicating with clients and providing home-care guidance.

The role requires prior veterinary experience (emergency preferred) and a valid veterinary technician license is preferred. Competitive benefits and opportunities for growth are offered in a supportive setting.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions, etc.).
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
