Job description

Overview

As an ER Technician at CHI St Vincent, you’ll help our patients feel safer and more comfortable by assisting with their care while in the Emergency Department.

No two days in the Emergency Department are ever the same. You’re a multitasker who can react quickly as you’ll prioritize patients based on their medical necessity while you’re providing emergency triage to others. As part of our ER team, you’ll partner with an experienced clinical team to deliver stabilizing care to our patients.

To thrive as an ED tech, you should exhibit teamwork, professionalism, critical thinking skills, and a willingness to take on additional projects such as patient experience initiatives. More than anything, you should be energetic and motivated to provide quality care to all of our patients, maintaining their dignity at every step.

About Us:

CHI St Vincent Infirmary is a 600 bed faith-based, non-profit, acute care facility providing quality health care to patients and communities from all over the State of Arkansas. Our level II trauma center is a regional referral center for cardiology, trauma, behavioral health, cancer care, neurosciences, and other specialties. We have been consistently named by US News & World Report as one of the State’s best hospitals, with high performance in heart care, colorectal surgery, and joint replacement.

If you are committed to social justice, health equity, and prepared to deliver care in new, innovative ways, you belong with us.

Responsibilities

  1. Check-in with the outgoing patient care techs at the beginning of your shift to get a report on your patients.
  2. Conduct hourly rounds on patients, checking vitals, maintaining whiteboard information, and assisting with care as needed.
  3. Assist patients with ambulating as necessary. This may mean helping them reach a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom, or down the hall. Assist released patients in getting safely to their vehicles outside.
  4. Assist patients with hygiene needs. This can include a full bed bath, an assisted bed bath, or retrieving towels and soap for ambulatory patients.
  5. Help the nurse with tube insertions such as an NG tube, rectal tube, or catheter. You may be holding a cup of water, holding the patient or providing the nurse with supplies as needed, and cleaning up after.
  6. Change bed linens, check patients’ weight, and perform other tasks as assigned each day.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED Required.
  2. One of the following criteria must be met:
    1. Certified Nursing Assistant/EMT, or
    2. Completion of “Fundamentals of Nursing” in an accredited RN or LPN Nursing Program, or
    3. Minimum of 6 months of direct patient care in an acute care environment within the last 24 months, or
    4. Successful completion of a PCT Training Course, offered quarterly at CHI St Vincent, or
    5. Verifiable Certified Patient Care Tech, CPCT, issued by American Allied Health.
  3. CPR Certification from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire.
