Northwestern Medicine in Grayslake, IL seeks an ER Tech to support emergency department operations, assist with bedside care, specimen collection, and basic diagnostics.

You will work under RN/doctor supervision, monitor vital signs, transport patients, and help with wound care, IVs, and admissions. CPR certification required; CNA or EMT-B preferred; High School diploma required.

This is a fast-paced clinical role with growth opportunities within NM’s patient-centered care framework.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• CNA or EMT-B certification/experience is required.
• CPR certification through American Heart Association is required.

Responsabilités

• Collects urine, stool and sputum specimens.
• Performs phlebotomy and various lab tests ( accucheck glucose, urine pregnancy, rapid strep, specific gravity, blood glucose ).
• Obtains and records vital signs.
• Performs 12‑lead EKGs; recognizes basic arrhythmias and manages monitoring status.
• Irrigates wounds, applies dressings, bandages and splints.
• Assists with patient ambulation, positioning, comfort, and feeding.
• Assists RN or physician with exams and minor procedures.
• Responds to emergencies and coordinates appropriate interventions.
• Administers simple oxygen masks or nasal cannulas.
• Primes IV bags and tubing; disconnects IV or Heplock.
• Transports patients to/from radiology for tests.
• Transports blood and blood components to the laboratory.
• Assists with admissions, discharges and transfers; transports belongings and equipment.
• Assists with post mortem care.
• Contacts departments and physicians for testing and results.
• Enters orders into the computer system.
• Maintains ER log book and statistics.
• Maintains ER charts and updates information.
• Updates on-call physician schedules for the ED.
• Ensures supplies are maintained in storeroom; places routine and special orders as needed.
