Job summary

The Hughston Memorial is seeking a Patient Access Representative to support ER registration, payer identification and verification, and point of service collections. The role emphasizes accurate data collection, benefits verification, and timely collection of patient financial responsibility at the point of service.

Responsibilities include completing the patient intake process, ensuring required forms are collected, and maintaining thorough notes.

Qualifications

• Previous office experience in a hospital or medical office, patient access or financial services preferred.
• Good math skills and typing proficiency.
• Must have exceptional customer service skills as well as verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs all elements of the patient intake process with proven accuracy by performing Master Patient Index inquiries to ensure non-duplication of medical records numbers.
• Identifies and verifies benefits, coordinates and enters information while fulfilling Medicare requirements.
• Determines and informs patient/guarantor of financial responsibility and collects at point of service, issuing receipts.
• Documents notes on each account and communicates clearly with patients and staff.
• Ensures all forms are completed at the time of service, including payer specific forms like Tricare and United Healthcare.
• Scans IDs, insurance cards, eligibility responses, payments and authorizations to the patient’s account.
• Maintains proficiency in systems and devices used in Patient Access functions.
• Supports point-of-service collections and patient responsibility communication at registration.
