Job summary

The position involves direct and indirect patient care, initiating treatments, monitoring patient status, and coordinating with ED physicians. Required credentials include paramedic certification and BLS/ACLS/PALS.

Qualifications

• High School / GED required.
• Current Virginia State Paramedic Certification and/or National Registry required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• AHA ACLS required at hire.
• AHA PALS required at hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of the Nurse Manager, Patient Care Manager, Charge Nurse or Team Leader.
• Assists patients with basic care needs following nursing policies and procedures.
• Administers treatments and procedures to patients as ordered by the physician and directed by the Nursing Staff.
• Communicates with ED physicians about changes in patient status and diagnostic results.
• Performs monitor technician duties as needed and obtains vital signs as acuity dictates.
• Performs venipuncture and starts IVs; collects specimens with proper labeling and transport.
• Sets up sterile trays for suturing and sterile procedures; inserts Foley catheter when appropriate.
• Demonstrates competency in medication management and assists with respiratory therapy tasks.
