Job summary

MedVet is seeking an ER/ICU Veterinary Assistant – Part time to join our fast-paced emergency team. The role supports clinicians across patient care, anesthesia, and nursing tasks on weekends and overnight care when needed.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations for drugs, CRIs, and unit conversions.
• Flexible schedule and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced ER environment with good communication.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications and wellness updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
