Job summary

St. David's North Austin Medical Center, part of St. David's HealthCare, seeks an Advanced Patient Care Technician ER to support the RN-led care team in delivering high-quality, patient-centered services in a busy emergency department.

The role involves assisting with daily living activities, vital signs, specimen collection, and surgical/ perioperative preparation. Applicants should have 1+ year acute care experience and CNA/LNA/EMT training preferred, with BCLS within 7 days of employment.

Qualifications

• Completion of CNA/LNA/EMT training or Military Medic Training is preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in acute care or military medic background preferred.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 7 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with basic needs, hygiene, mobility and transportation.
• Record admissions data and vital signs throughout the care cycle.
• Provide non-medicated support care, dressing changes, skin protection, and heat/ice applications.
• Perform hourly rounding and respond to call lights and patient requests.
• Assist in specimen collection for diagnostic tests as directed by RN.
• Maintain clean, hazard-free patient rooms and assist with equipment setup and cleaning.
• Prepare patients for surgery or procedures and support perioperative processes.
• Perform clerical duties such as charting, filing, phone handling and message relay.
• Under RN direction, perform phlebotomy, telemetry monitoring, catheter removal, IV removal, or skin/wound care as assigned.
• Complete enhanced Healthcare Acquired Infections training and skin/wound care training.
