Job summary

Citi’s Equity Research team in New York is seeking a Senior Associate to support its Chemicals research franchise and deliver independent insights to institutional clients globally.

You will build and update financial models, write research publications, and develop investment views across a dynamic chemicals universe while leveraging AI-driven tools and collaborating with senior analysts. A fast-paced, merit-based environment offers exposure to leading chemical companies.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in Equity Research, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, Asset Management, Valuation, or related roles.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting fundamentals, and corporate finance.
• Experience building financial models and performing company valuation analyses (DCF, comps, precedent transactions).

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and update detailed financial models for Chemicals companies, including earnings forecasts and scenario modeling.
• Draft and co-author equity research publications: earnings previews, recaps, initiation reports, and industry deep dives.
• Analyze company fundamentals, industry trends, competitive dynamics, regulatory developments, and evolving themes.
• Collaborate with senior analysts to develop differentiated investment views for institutional clients.
• Respond to inquiries from clients, delivering timely perspectives on sector developments.
• Coordinate investor events including management meetings and company visits.
• Apply AI tools to enhance research workflows and efficiency.
• Mentor junior team members and uphold high research quality and ethics.
• Evaluate business decisions with sound judgment and maintain integrity of outputs.

Citi’s Equity Research team is looking for a Senior Associate to support our Chemicals research franchise, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, independent investment insights to institutional clients globally.

In this role, you will play a meaningful part in shaping investment research, financial models, and client engagement across a dynamic coverage universe spanning multiple sub-sectors in and adjacent to Chemicals. This is an opportunity to combine deep fundamental analysis, financial modeling, industry research, and emerging AI-driven research methods while gaining exposure to established chemical companies.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and update detailed financial models for companies across the Chemicals landscape, including earnings forecasts, valuation analysis, and scenario modeling to support investment recommendations.


• Draft and co-author equity research publications, including earnings previews and recaps, initiation reports, industry deep dives, thematic research, and other sector-focused content.


• Analyze company fundamentals, industry trends, competitive dynamics, regulatory developments, and evolving


• Work closely with senior research analysts to develop differentiated investment views and translate complex financial and industry analysis into actionable insights for institutional investors.


• Respond to inquiries from internal and external clients, delivering timely and well-informed perspectives on sector developments and covered companies.


• Coordinate and support investor events including management meetings, company visits, industry conferences, and calls with industry experts and consultants.


• Apply AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance research workflows, streamline data analysis, and improve the quality and efficiency of published research.


• Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to a high-performing research environment through knowledge sharing and day-to-day guidance.


• Evaluate business and investment decisions with sound judgment, maintaining the integrity of research outputs and adhering to regulatory and ethical standards at all times.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 3 to 5 years of experience in Equity Research, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, Asset Management, Valuation, or another financial markets-related role.


• Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting fundamentals, and corporate finance.


• Experience building financial models and performing company valuation analyses (DCF, comparable companies, precedent transactions, or similar methodologies).


• Active holding of, or eligibility to obtain, SIE, Series 63, Series 86, and Series 87 licenses within 180 days.


• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


• Intellectual curiosity and a genuine passion for financial markets and investing.


• Ability to learn quickly and develop expertise in a new industry or sector.


• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• MBA, graduate degree, or CFA designation, demonstrating advanced financial and analytical expertise.


• Experience working at or covering stocks in chemicals, materials or asset-intensive industries.


• Hands-on experience applying AI tools or data analytics platforms to investment research or financial analysis workflows.
