Job summary

Oak Park Elementary District 97 is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students and teachers in the classroom. The position emphasizes supervising students, implementing prescribed programs, maintaining records, and upholding the district's equity commitments.

The role reports to Core Instruction Administration at an assigned school building. The ideal candidate will assist with a balanced program of instruction, support behavior plans, and work collaboratively with staff,

Qualifications

Ability to lift students as required.
Professional demeanor and effective communication with students and staff.
Ability to work collaboratively with others and follow instruction.

Responsibilities

Assist with providing a variety of activities for a balanced program of instruction.
Reinforce information and instructions following a lesson.
Work with students individually or in small groups in academic studies and life skills.
Implement behavior modification plans for individual students when necessary.
Maintain confidentiality regarding students.
Maintain positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
Observe and record students' progress.
Assist during activities including recess, lunch, and bus transitions.
Assist the classroom teacher and student in daily activities.
Assist students with academic needs.
Maintain behavior under teacher direction using behavior management strategies.
