Job summary

Outpost Bio is seeking a computational biologist to turn microbiome data into biological understanding and methods our scientists can rely on. You will own computational studies and the scientific decisions that connect experimental measurements to model inputs.

We hire one person for this role, based in either London or Boston. The position offers equity, strong benefits, and collaboration across continents with ML and data science teams to define meaningful features and benchmarks.

Qualifications

• Doctorate or master's with 3+ years industry experience.
• Experience analyzing metagenomic or 16S data.
• Strong statistical reasoning for experimental design and confounding factors.
• Proficiency in Python and/or R with reproducible code using Git and Linux.
• Experience working with experimental scientists and interpreting data supportively.
• Nice to have: LC-MS data processing, microbial metabolism, ML and cloud compute, Nextflow/Snakemake.

Responsibilities

• Run standard analyses on experimental screens and calibrate against controls and reference data.
• Assess datasets before model training; investigate contamination and protocol changes.
• Integrate new data types (metagenomics, LC-MS) into workflows with scientists and engineers.
• Document assumptions behind computational tools and methods.
• Develop and validate methods for 16S and metagenomic data across studies.
• Explore drug- and chemical-response patterns across donors and conditions with proper controls.
