Job summary

Outpost Bio is seeking a computational biologist to turn microbiome data into actionable biological insights. You will own computational studies and decisions linking measurements to model inputs, with the role based in Boston or London.

The candidate will develop and validate methods for 16S and metagenomic data, work with wet lab teams, and contribute to ongoing research initiatives while writing reusable analysis code for colleagues across scientific backgrounds.

Qualifications

• PhD in computational biology or a master’s with industry experience and independent research outputs.
• Hands-on analysis of metagenomic or 16S data with understanding of microbial biology.
• Strong statistical reasoning including design, confounding and multiple testing.
• Proficient in Python and/or R with reproducible code and version control.

Responsibilities

• Run standard analyses on experimental screens and calibrate against controls.
• Assess datasets before model training, documenting fitness for learning.
• Incorporate new data types and ensure validated, repeatable workflows.
• Document assumptions behind computational tools in use.
• Develop/validate methods to analyze 16S and metagenomic data.
• Explore drug/chemical responses across donors and conditions with controls.
• Collaborate with scientists to refine hypotheses and designs.
• Write reusable analysis code and clearly explain results.
