Job summary

Outpost Bio is seeking a Computational Biologist to turn microbiome data into biological understanding and methods our scientists can rely on. You will own computational studies and the scientific decisions that connect experimental measurements to model inputs.

The role can be based in London or Boston; the posting favors Boston. You will work with experimental scientists and ML researchers to define meaningful features and benchmarks, ensuring analyses are reproducible and well-documented.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience analyzing metagenomic or 16S data.
• Strong statistical design and handling compositional data.
• Ability to write reproducible analysis code with version control.

Responsibilities

• Run analyses on experimental screens; calibrate against controls and reference data.
• Assess datasets for model training; investigate contamination and batch effects.
• Incorporate new data types into workflows and ensure repeatable methods.
• Document assumptions behind computational tools; maintain clear, reusable code.
• Develop and validate methods to analyze 16S and metagenomic data; explain limitations.
• Investigate drug/chemical responses across donors and conditions with proper controls.
• Collaborate with experimental scientists and ML researchers to define meaningful features and benchmarks.
• Propose in-silico questions and contribute to research initiatives; communicate results clearly.
