Responsibilities
- Maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and complete annual basic training and CPR certification renewal.
- Communicate effectively with OR staff, including Service Coordinators, Nurse Managers, Surgeons, Anesthesia, SPD, and Nursing Units.
- Operate radios professionally, respond promptly to calls, and communicate delays or issues appropriately.
- Complete assignments timely, maintain sterile rooms, and stock surgical supplies as needed.
- Assist with setup and handling of specialized OR equipment, attend in-services for new equipment, and ensure proper equipment care and maintenance.
- Report equipment issues, return items to proper places, and keep equipment clean.
- Work independently, seek guidance when needed, and be available for 'On Call' duties during weekends and holidays.
- Monitor autoclave biological testing, document results, and maintain autoclave functions.
- Transport specimens to the lab accurately and on time.
- Provide safe patient transportation to the OR, identify yourself properly, and communicate professionally.
- Follow patient identification and HIPAA confidentiality policies.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety, communicate concerns, and maintain a clean, safe OR environment following universal precautions and AORN guidelines.
- Handle biohazard waste correctly, report out-of-order equipment, and assist nursing staff as needed.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned, adhering to organizational standards and behaviors.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required.
- BLS certification within 60 days of employment.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and hospital supplies is a plus.
