Job summary

Occidental Petroleum Corporation seeks an experienced Equipment Tech for the ORCM Reliability and Maintenance Group. The role is based in the New Mexico Delaware Basin (Carlsbad, NM Area) and focuses on maintaining, repairing, and optimizing high-speed compressors and related rotating equipment.

You will ensure safety, compliance, and teamwork while supporting maintenance programs, tooling, and cost-reduction initiatives across the facility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• 1-3 years industrial maintenance experience in maintaining and repairing rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, VRUs).
• Experience in maintaining and repairing high-speed compressors and engines 500–2500 HP (preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of oil and gas surface equipment types and applications.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and perform root cause failure analysis.
• Basic troubleshooting of automation and electrical equipment.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Good knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Maintain environment, health, and safety as top priority.
• Ensure compliance with policy and procedures (MOC’s, PSSR’s, procedures, audits).
• Support growth and development of personnel.
• Execute high-speed compressor maintenance program and practices.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and parts inventory for the maintenance program.
• Manage backlog of work orders to keep compressor uptime and reliability.
• Provide technical input to reduce costs and improve reliability.
• Support compression surveillance to maximize uptime and throughput.
• Support OPEX reduction and compression optimization initiatives.
• Coordinate use of contract resources with supervisory approval.
• Collaborate with other groups to meet business goals.
