The City of Bend is looking for a skilled and motivated Equipment Technician to help keep the vehicles and equipment that support our community operating safely and reliably. From police and fire vehicles to heavy construction equipment, snowplows, and support fleet vehicles, this role plays a critical part in maintaining the equipment City employees depend on every day. A typical day may include diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, completing repairs, and working alongside a team of technicians to keep the City's fleet in top condition.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of equipment and evolving technologies, including modern diesel engines, advanced vehicle electronics, alternative fuel systems, and specialized municipal equipment. We're looking for someone who is dependable, safety-minded, and takes pride in maintaining equipment that supports essential City services. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong diagnostic skills who can work independently while contributing positively to a team environment. They enjoy solving complex mechanical problems, communicating effectively with coworkers and customers, and continuously learning new technologies.
Highly qualified candidates will have working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, preventive maintenance practices, and computerized diagnostic tools. They will bring strong troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
