Job description

We're seeking a skilled Equipment Specialist to join our Public Works team, where you'll maintain and operate machinery essential for processing and managing recyclable or various materials. Your role will be vital in ensuring the smooth operation of equipment that supports our environmental sustainability efforts. Responsibilities
  1. Operate heavy equipment such as street sweeper, dump truck, compactor, picker truck, backhoe, concrete breaker, loader, and assorted hand and pneumatic tools in construction and maintenance of streets, drainage, and asphalt.
  2. Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; report mechanical issues.
  3. Perform traffic control activities, report safety hazards, and follow safety precautions.
  4. Perform skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and general labor work related to street and drainage repairs.
  5. Maintain grounds, including mowing, weed eating, sweeping, trash pickup, and landscaping.
For Solid Waste Operations
  1. Operate and maintain brush or stake bed trucks, including daily checks and refueling.
  2. Load materials by hand when necessary.
  3. Perform personnel duties such as training and coaching.
  4. Perform grounds maintenance and cleaning around containers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six months of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days.
  • Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License or obtain within six months.
Additional Skills
  • Ability to operate equipment like sweepers, patch trucks, and dump trucks.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, sweeping, and patching activities.
  • Knowledge of city streets and proper co-worker and public relations.
For Solid Waste Only
  • Operate and maintain collection equipment, including brush and stake beds.
  • Work well with co-workers and the public.
  • Perform maintenance duties as needed.
