Job description

We're seeking a skilled Equipment Specialist to join our Public Works team, where you'll maintain and operate machinery essential for processing and managing recyclable or various materials. Your role will be vital in ensuring the smooth operation of equipment that supports our environmental sustainability efforts. The Equipment Specialist drives and operates hydraulic picker or stake bed while collecting heavy brush and loads by hand when necessary. Maintains the Baytown Green Center and participates in operations.

1. Operates and maintains brush or stake bed by checking oil and gas every morning and refueling and adding oil as necessary.
2. Drives and operates brush or stake bed. Loads by hand when necessary.
3. Performs personnel related duties including training and coaching.
4. Maintenance of grounds: mowing, weed eating, sweeping, picking up trash, cleaning around containers, and all landscaping maintenance.
5. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required:

1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Six months related experience.
3. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
4. Valid State of Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License, or must be obtained within six months of date in position.

Ability to operate and maintain all types of equipment used in collection of brush. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public. Ability to work around cash monies and write receipts to customers. Be able to provide maintenance duties.

Attendance is an essential function of this position. The Green Center is open Tuesday-Saturday. Attendance on Saturdays is mandatory. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.

Overall Position Strength Demands:

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
