Job summary

St. Jude is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to install, modify, and maintain sterilizers, autoclaves, and related equipment across the campus in support of patient care and research operations.

The role emphasizes safety, adherence to cGMP practices, timely responses to maintenance requests, routine rounds, and accurate CMMS documentation while collaborating with engineers and department leads.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years' experience as a mechanic with steam, condensate, water, and pneumatic systems in a hospital or similar.
• 2+ years operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining autoclaves and related equipment.
• Steam Engineer license preferred (Memphis/Shelby County).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all aspects of delivering high quality FM services.
• Maintain facilities related equipment (e.g., keys, Carpentry tools).
• Respond to technical queries to provide exceptional service and satisfaction.
• Escalate as needed.
• Develop understanding of facilities maintenance responsibilities and contribute to compliance.
• Perform rounds of facilities and equipment to ensure proper state and operation.
• Maintain cleanliness throughout the facilities including accurate records in the CMMS.
• Ensure a safety focused mindset on all aspects of the position.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, modify, repair, calibrate, and test mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment.
• Serve as a first responder to urgent maintenance needs, diagnosing issues and minimizing downtime.
• Complete assigned work orders with accurate labor, materials, findings, and corrective actions in CMMS.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and department leads for preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Adhere to safety regulations and institutional protocols, promoting safety culture.
• Communicate effectively with internal customers and stakeholders about maintenance status.
• Participate in inspections, audits, and routine rounds to support compliance.
• Perform other duties to meet department goals.

• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and department leads to coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities, contributing to long-term equipment reliability and performance.
• Adhere strictly to safety regulations, institutional protocols, and industry best practices in all tasks, while promoting a culture of safety awareness across the team.
• Communicate effectively with internal customers and stakeholders, providing exceptional service and timely updates regarding maintenance status and expectations.
• Participate in inspections, audits, and routine rounds to proactively identify maintenance needs and support compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Minimum Education and/or Training

High school diploma/ GED required.

Minimum Experience

• 2+ years as a mechanic working on steam, condensate, water and pneumatic systems in a hospital, research facility, or similar environment.
• 2+ years operating, troubleshooting and maintaining medical, research or cGMP autoclaves, process equipment and/or equipment of similar technical sophistication.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only

• Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement Steam Engineer First or Third Class License preferred
