Performs semi-skilled and general labor, maintenance and repair work for the City of Longview, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures. Collects solid waste, refuse, bulky items, and recyclables for the City, and assists with maintenance of equipment and vehicles in accordance with safety regulations and procedures.
Performs basic equipment operation and labor tasks in order to dispose of bulky waste and/or maintain streets, roadway, water and sewer systems, infrastructure, parks, grounds and facilities as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment. Performs basic and semiskilled construction, maintenance and general labor work within scope of authority and training, and in accordance with all City safety regulations and procedures. Operates hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment. Inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on vehicles and equipment. Completes required daily logs and reports. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards and equipment problems; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries. Performs tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Operates truck and leads work crew collecting solid waste, refuse, bulky items and recyclable materials; performs manual labor tasks as needed. Screens and checks refuse to remove hazardous and prohibited waste. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries. Maintains vehicles and equipment according to City standards. Responds to requests for information; provides basic information within scope of authority. Maintains daily work logs and records; performs work according to City policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED equivalent, and one year of basic maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B is required. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous equipment; requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and move items weighing in a range of fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds.
