Job Description

Temporary Part-Time Position (Until end of November 2025)

Work Schedule: Saturday only 8:30am-5:00pm

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the operation, clean-up and maintenance of heavy equipment involved in waste management operations. Equipment includes compactor, bulldozer, wheel loader, skid steer, forklift/zoom boom and other equipment as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

1.Fine grading operation including ditch excavations, slope trimming and construction, site grading.

2.Deal with customers and contractors in a positive and courteous manner including conflict resolution.

3.Site Attendant duties are required as directed, including but not limited to: operation of weigh scales, assessment and collection of tippage fees, completion of all required landfill documentation, compost logs, bank deposits, inventory, daily disposal sheets, directing customers, sorting and packaging Waste Electronic & Electrical Equipment (WEEE), accepting and packaging Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), handling and loading mattresses, and maintaining diversion areas.

4.Other duties as assigned.

5.Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

6.Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

•Must have a validDZ drivers licence with a clean driving record.

•Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

•Must be able to deal with public and customers in a courteous manner.

•Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

•Must provide own transportation to and from site(s).

•Must be an effective team player.

•Demonstrated computer experience in a Windows environment would be preferred.

EXPERIENCE

•Three (3) years’ experience in operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.

•Experience working to establish set grades (i.e. percentage grades and slope).

•Experience in operating landfill compaction equipment would be considered and asset.

EFFORT

•Walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, climbing or carrying and/or pulling of light weights.

•Ability to lift up to 20kg.

•Mental and visual concentration when operating equipment/driving.

WORKING CONDITIONS

•Must wear the required PPE year round.

•Work is performed outdoors at a landfill site or transfer station, exposure to the elements is expected on a daily basis.

•Exposure to grease, oil, dust, dirt, noise, and foul odours on a regular basis.

Salary Grade

$30.21 - $31.28
