Position Summary

Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Operate a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
• Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
• Construct ditches for culverts, water, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
• Check and maintain equipment fluid levels and lubrication.
• Instruct and train employees in safe operation of equipment and job techniques.
• Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge and skills relevant to the position.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively.
• Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements:

• Must be able to move about a construction site constantly, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
• Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds, and other access equipment.
• Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
• Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
• Move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the site.
• Possess required tools.
• Comply with safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.
• Pass drug, alcohol, medical, and background checks.
