City of Chesapeake is seeking an Equipment Operator II – Wastewater Utility Worker to operate heavy equipment at 906 Executive Blvd, Chesapeake, VA. Join a dedicated Public Utilities team responsible for maintaining sanitary sewer systems and supporting city operations.
This full-time, safety-sensitive role offers a competitive salary, benefits, a $3,000 signing bonus, and a $4,000 CDL stipend. A valid license and tanker-endorsed CDL within 6 months are required, with at least a 10th-grade

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED OR specialized vocational training is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . A Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ) is required. Specialized certifications may be required based on department assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience of pipe repair techniques and maintenance of gravity and pressurized piping systems.
