Job summary

The City of Norfolk's Department of Parks and Recreation seeks an Equipment Operator II to join our landscaping crews. This role maintains 2,700 acres of turf and landscape beds and works with Parks and Forestry Operations to keep urban green spaces in top condition.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of machinery operation experience for grounds maintenance and horticulture, plus a valid Virginia driver's license.

Qualifications

• Work requires knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Maintains grounds and right of ways, including trash container handling, mowing, raking, digging, planting, pruning, mulching, weed control and debris removal.
• Operates heavy equipment such as Surf Rakes, backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks and mowers in grounds maintenance operations.
• Performs safety checks and minor preventive maintenance on equipment and daily inspections to ensure safe operation.
