Job summary

Waupaca County is seeking a Highway Department team member to perform road and bridge maintenance, operate a range of light to medium equipment, and support emergency response duties around the clock. The role requires a high school diploma, 2 years of related experience, and a Wisconsin CDL (B/C/D).

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of related experience.
  • Valid Wisconsin CDL Classes B, C and D required; A/N not required but desired.
  • Ability to operate and maintain department equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to establish working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction and maintenance tasks (hauling, spreading, loading/unloading materials).
  • Snow plowing, crack sealing, pothole patching, mowing and vegetation management.
  • Operate equipment such as bucket truck, backhoe, grader, loader, oil distributor truck, compactor, roller, crackfilling equipment, rotary broom, vacuum sweeper.
  • Maintain records and reports; ensure training, licenses, and certifications are up to date.
  • Respond to emergencies 24/7 (snow removal, accidents, floods, traffic control).

SALARY RANGEWORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS$25.02 to $26.50 Starting WageCLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATIONAs a function of the Waupaca County Highway Department this position provides repair, maintenance and construction of roadways and bridges.This position works under the direct supervision of Foreman.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform construction and maintenance tasks to include but not limited to hauling, spreading, loading/unloading materials and equipment, snow plowing, crack sealing, pothole patching, mowing, brush/tree cutting and snow fencing.Be able to operate light and medium size equipment proficiently such as, but not limited to bucket truck, backhoe, grader, loader, oil distributor truck, compactor, roller, crackfilling equipment, rotary broom, vacuum sweeper.Be responsible for equipment, facilities and tools by training in use of them in order to utilize properly and maintain as prescribed.Be available to do emergency work at all times (24/7) including, but not limited to: Snow plowing, tree removal, accidents, flood control, traffic control etc.Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.Be accountable for work performance by keeping accurate records and reports.Maintain training, licenses and certifications required for position.PERIPHERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform manual labor and other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS :EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.EXPERIENCE: Must have 2 years of related experienceSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License Classes B, C, and D.
