The City of Leander is seeking an Equipment Operator II to perform mid-level maintenance on streets, drainage systems, and public rights-of-way, and to assist in training new staff. The role requires a CDL and ability to work a scheduled on-call rotation.
You will operate a range of heavy equipment, prepare sites, and follow safety practices while outdoors in varied weather. This full-time position reports to the Public Works department and includes after-hours calls and occasional emergencies.
Performs mid-level complex work. Work involves providing a variety of maintenance duties which include construction, repair and maintenance of streets, public rights-of-way, and storm water detention ponds, and drainage systems. Equipment Operator II may act in absence of a Crew Leader to oversee crew activity at a worksite to ensure safety is being met, will also help train new employees. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This position must be able to be scheduled for on-call rotation.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and push, pull, drag up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperature and during inclement weather; exposed to dust fumes and loud noises. Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
