Job summary

DuPage County's Division of Transportation seeks an Equipment Operator I to safely operate a range of motorized equipment, from pickup trucks to sweepers and snowplows. The role involves performing heavy manual work, maintaining vehicles, and supporting roadway repairs.

Requirements include a HS diploma or GED, two years of equipment operation, and an Illinois CDL with air brakes endorsement. Training is provided; post-offer drug screen and physical apply; on-call pay during November 1 to March

Responsibilities

  • Performs heavy manual work (e.g. construction of sidewalks and streets).
  • Services and performs minor repairs and routine maintenance on motorized equipment.
  • Repairs roadways and streets.
  • Performs landscape maintenance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job description

We are pleased to offer the current job opportunity for Equipment Operator I within the DuPage County Division of Transportation. In this position, employees are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of motorized equipment of varying sizes and capacities.

This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.

This position is included in the Bargaining Unit of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150.

Requirements
  • Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma equivalent
  • Two years of experience in the operation of light to moderate size motorized equipment
  • A valid Illinois Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brakes endorsement is required

The preferred candidate will have experience with landscaping, snow plowing, asphalt, and concrete.

We are willing to train

A post offer drug screen is required.

A post offer physical is required. A pre-employment background check is required.

Employees in this class are required to be on call for emergency situations and seasonal snow removal, which means being capable of working in excess of forty (40) hours per week.
