Job summary

The Town of Marana, located near Tucson, Arizona, is seeking an Equipment Operator I to join the Public Works Department. This full-time position involves operating trucks and equipment to support road maintenance and infrastructure projects.

Hours vary with seasons: 5:00 am start in June to 3:30 pm; 6:00 am start otherwise. A CDL with Tanker endorsement is required within 6 months. The Town offers competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• 3+ years experience in road maintenance or related field operating heavy equipment.
• Must possess Arizona Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement or obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Subject to random DOT testing.
• Must complete pre-employment physical, audiogram, and pass a 50-lb lift test.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine semi-skilled maintenance tasks; operates trucks and equipment in accordance with safety regulations; inspects and maintains trucks and equipment.
• Completes daily logs, enters reports, and reports mechanical problems; tracks materials and supplies.

Position Description

The Town of Marana is seeking an Equipment Operator I to work in the Public Works Department. This is a full-time position and an exciting opportunity for someone interested in having a direct impact on the Town's infrastructure.

Hours of operation: June 1 – October 1 - 5:00 am – 3:30 pm

October 2 – May 31 - 6:00 am – 4:30 pm

Mandatory rotating on-call.

Expected Hiring Range: $21.68 - $26.56 hourly

• Placement within the salary range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget.

Salary Range: $21.68 – $31.44 hourly

Examples of Duties

• Performs routine semi-skilled maintenance tasks; operates a variety of trucks and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on trucks and equipment.
• Completes required daily logs and enters reports; identifies and reports mechanical problems, tracks and manages, materials, and supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Over three years experience in road maintenance, construction, or related field operating heavy equipment.
• Must possess an Arizona (Class A) Commercial Driver License (CDL) w/Tanker Endorsement or must obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Subject to random testing per DOT (FMSCA) requirements.
• Must complete a pre-employment physical, audiogram, and pass a 50-lb lift test.
• Must complete both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Equipment transport – transport, haul and/or drive equipment.
• Surveying experience - shoot grade.
• Computer base work-order experience.
• Arizona (Class A) Commercial Driver License (CDL) w/Tanker Endorsement.
