JOB SUMMARY

Equipment operator/Drain Layer serving the clients of the company by expertly servicing, repairing, and replacing sewer and water services.

JOB DUTIES

Performs water and sewer line repair, replacement, and installation through excavation activities to include trenchless and slab penetration.

1. Locate problems, using specially designed equipment, and mark where digging must occur to reach damaged tanks or pipes.
2. Dig and backfill trenches and breakup/remove concrete by hand and on excavators/loaders.
3. Install or repair individual sewer and/or water service lines serving private properties.
4. Operate sewer cleaning equipment, including power rodders and high velocity water jets.
5. Service, adjust, and make minor repairs to equipment, machines, and attachments.
6. Withdraw cables from pipes and examine them for evidence of mud, roots, grease, and other deposits indicating broken or clogged sewer lines.
7. Clean, jet, and cable building drains and sewers.
8. Prepare and keep records of actions taken, including maintenance and repair work.
9. Install rotary knives on flexible cables mounted on machine reels, according to the diameters of pipes to be cleaned.
10. Tap mainline sewers to install sewer saddles.
11. Cover repaired pipes with dirt, and pack backfilled excavations, using air and gasoline tampers.
12. Must comply with all OSHA trenching safety requirements.
13. Following safety policies and procedures.
14. Abiding by ALL BFP standards of performance and code of ethics.
15. Maintaining a courteous demeanor with all customers and associates.
16. Maintains company vehicle, ensuring cleanliness and organization, both inside and out.
17. Respecting the customer’s property.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Minimum of 2 years of verifiable excavation and drain cleaning experience in a residential service and maintenance operation.
2. Must obtain journeyman drain layer certification.
3. Must obtain confined space/competent person certification.
4. Must be willing to obtain a Class A license with taker and air‐brakes endorsements within first 90 days.
5. Extensive knowledge of excavation work.
6. Knowledge of plumbing field concepts, practices, best practices, procedures, tools, and equipment.
7. Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
