Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate a range of heavy equipment such as backhoes, tractors, and pumps. The role requires obtaining a CDL Class A within 6 months and emphasizes safe operation and ongoing maintenance of machinery.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain CDL Class A within 6 months of employment.
  • Experience with safe operation of light and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanics and maintenance of equipment to perform repairs when needed.
  • Understanding of traffic laws as they apply to equipment operation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as backhoes, tractors, mowers, and heavy pumps for drainage, ponds, and related work.
  • Maintain and prep equipment for use, perform preventive maintenance and cleanings.
  • Inspect, lubricate, and adjust equipment; replace attachments as needed.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and deliver equipment, vehicles, and materials for maintenance and construction projects.
  • Operate snow removal equipment when required.
  • Prepare sites by ditching, grading, and similar tasks; oversee site cleaning and excavation.
  • Attend worksite as scheduled; follow project timelines and safety protocols.
