Brief Description Of The Job

Maintains City’s Streets and Right of Ways in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Duties include operating light equipment and dump trucks. Must be available to work overtime and be “On Call” as assigned by supervisor.

Organizational Relationships

• Reports to Crew Leader.
• This is a non-supervisory position.
• Has contact with other employees in other departments and with the public daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Operates light equipment such as tractor/loader, skid steer loader, pneumatic roller, vibratory roller, trencher, water truck, asphalt distributor, dump truck, mower, concrete saw, chain saw, weed trimmer, or truck as required or instructed.
• May operate heavy equipment, such as maintainer, backhoe, dozer, front-end loader as instructed.
• Performs routine inspections and services to ensure equipment is in proper working condition.
• Performs maintenance and repairs of streets, parks, drainage ways, structures, curb & gutter systems, drains, inlets, and signage.
• Assists in troubleshooting and performing skilled repairs.
• Sets up traffic control devices as necessary.
• Provides quality customer service to city staff, the public, and other contacts.
• Performs other labor duties as assigned and assists other departments as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of street maintenance procedures preferred. Knowledge of first aid and CPR procedures.

Ability to operate heavy machinery, move weights up to 100 pounds, understand instructions, work safely, read manuals, take notes, perform calculations, assess problems, and make repairs.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. One year of roadway maintenance experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Certificates/Licenses

Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within six months, with a driving record meeting insurance requirements.

Conditions of Employment

• Work weekends and holidays.
• Be on call for emergencies.
• Work hours outside of 8:00-5:00.
• Work under weather exposure.
• Pass a drug test prior to employment.
