Position Overview

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of various types of construction equipment, including but not limited to Loaders, Back Hoes, Track Hoes, Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, etc. Training may be available.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ensure safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading.
• Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.
• Perform minor servicing and maintenance; refer major problems to the supervisor.
• Follow trenching and shoring standards.
• Keep time and material records.
• Understand aggregate sizes, classifications, and weight requirements of loads leaving the pit.
• Travel from interstate highways to rural dirt roads from various locations.
• Assist laborers at various job sites as needed, including tasks involved with laying pipe, utility lines, road construction, and asphalt laying.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; 1-2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to perform basic math operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed instructions.

Computer Skills

• None required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid driver’s license required.

Other Qualifications

• MSHA Certification

Physical Requirements

The physical demands include sitting, talking, hearing, climbing, handling, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities are required.

Work Environment

The work involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, weather conditions, vibration, wet/humid conditions, high places, electrical shocks, and loud noise levels. Accommodations may be made for disabilities.
