Equipment Operator - Department of Public Works, City of Naperville

The City of Naperville is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals for Equipment Operator positions in our Department of Public Works. Responsibilities include performing skilled and semi-skilled manual labor in maintaining streets, sidewalks, landscaping, forestry, parks, drainage systems, traffic control devices, and related facilities. The role involves operating various light and heavy equipment for construction and maintenance activities.

This position is represented by IUOE 150. Wage rates and benefits are governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment for construction and maintenance tasks, requiring extensive physical labor.
• Work outdoors year-round, with availability after hours and on weekends for snow removal and emergency duties.
• Work hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of general maintenance or construction experience; concrete rehab/install experience preferred.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements, or willingness to obtain within three months of hire, with a good driving record.
• Applicants must submit a driving record abstract showing their driver's history.

Preferred Knowledge:

• Operation of light and heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, loaders, rollers, street sweepers, aerial trucks, and chippers.
• Techniques and procedures used in street, sidewalk, storm sewer, traffic marking, landscaping, forestry, and concrete work.
