Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator I will operate machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Required Education / Experience & Qualifications:

• Valid ‘For-Hire’ Driver’s License
• Minimum of six months of heavy equipment operation
• Knowledge of machinery operation and capabilities
• Ability to read site plans related to structural concrete and land grades
• Ability to complete safety awareness training
• Excellent mechanical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to follow instructions
• Ability to operate one piece of equipment that we utilize on the job

Education / Experience & Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Vocational school training or apprenticeship
• CDL Class A License
• OSHA 10 Card

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Operates construction, excavating and loading equipment and heavy machinery including excavators, power shovels, stripping shovels, scraper loaders and backhoes
• Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation
• Effectively completes excavation and related tasks such as backfilling excavations and breaking concrete or rock using appropriate equipment
• Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites
• Operates machinery used to open trenches and expose utilities
• Inspects, fuels, and performs routine vehicle maintenance prior to beginning shift
• Consults digging plans, machine specifications, and safety procedures for specific tasks
• Ensures work is completed to specification by observing grade stakes, material levels, hand signals, and other markers
• Performs routine maintenance and repairs
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of operating machinery
• Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
• Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time
• Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds
• Must be able to drive or ride in a vehicle for up to four hours to travel to and from job sites
• Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions
• Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
• Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
• Must have flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the business
