About this position: Equipment Operator

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and may not reflect all duties performed within the job. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Equipment Operator of excavators – mini and medium classes, dozers, and skid steers in a residential setting.
  • As necessary perform the duties of a Laborer.
  • Maintain a safe work area.
  • Communicate and work with the Project Support staff – QCM, SSHO, Superintendent, Site Coordinator.
  • Communicate and professionally represent the Employer with property owners and the public.
Qualifications – Experience, Education and Certification
  • 2+ years of demonstrable experience on residential lead remediation projects for USEPA or USACE.
  • 2+ years of demonstrable experience working on Hazardous Waste Sites USEPA or USACE.
  • Completion of OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Current 8‑hour Annual HAZWOPER Refresher training.
  • Completion of a 10‑hour OSHA Construction Safety Course.
  • Fluent verbal and written communication in English.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Experience operating equipment to excavate/backfill soils in tight areas constrained by structures, underground and overhead utilities, trees & roots, retaining walls, etc., and the ability to excavate shallow depths consistently across cells.
  • Ability to plan the excavation/backfill sequence of a property to maintain efficiencies and a safe work area.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility locate marks, field sketches and other work documents related to the properties being excavated.
  • Ability to complete and file paperwork in an organized and legible form.
Physical Requirements

Maintaining a constant state of mental alertness. Lifting, bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods. Most time spent outdoors with frequent movement.

DOT Covered/Safety‑Sensitive Role Requirements
  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety‑sensitive” functions.
Work Environment

Outdoor setting with exposure to all weather conditions – rain, snow, cold and hot temperatures. Extensive driving during each shift. Work schedule: more than 8 hours per shift, nominally Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work required. Use of smart phones, cameras, tablets in the field. Personal protective equipment required – hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, safety vests, respirators, hearing protection, chemical protective equipment, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Equipment Operators are the leads for their individual crew and are responsible for organizing the work at an assigned property. Crews include other equipment operators, truck drivers, and laborers.
Additional Qualifying Factors

As a condition of employment, a pre‑employment drug screening and acceptable background check results are required. If applicable to the contract, obtaining the appropriate clearance levels and access to military installations may be required. A pre‑employment and annual HAZWOPER physical is required in addition to a physician’s determination that the employee can work on a hazardous waste site and wear required personal protective equipment. Travel is required.
