Pitt County Government seeks an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator at the Transfer Station to handle disposal operations and move solid waste from the site into transport trailers. You will operate bulldozers, loaders, graders and other heavy machinery, perform minor maintenance, and assist with site safety, directing patrons, and coordinating with the Transfer Station Supervisor.
Requires HS diploma and 2 years of heavy equipment experience or equivalent, plus NC CDL or ability to obtain
Under general supervision, performs specialized skilled work in the operation of one or more types of motorized heavy equipment used in the disposal of refuse at the County transfer station. Work involves operating bulldozers, rubber tire loaders, excavators, graders, yard tractors and trash compactor to remove solid waste from transfer station into tractor trailers for transporting to landfill.
Employee is also responsible for moving trailers around the yard, cleaning the compactor and around compactor, and making minor repairs on all equipment. Reports to the Transfer Station Supervisor.
Operates one or more types of motorized heavy equipment to haul, push, load solid waste and other materials to be transferred to a landfill, i.e. bulldozers, rubber tire loaders, graders, backhoes, etc.; receives instruction and trains in use of various such equipment, as time and workload permits.
Assists in the direction and control of the disposal of refuse at the transfer site, assisting in directing patrons and ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures and standards.
Assists with minor maintenance and repair of equipment used in transfer station operation.
May grade grounds for repair or for future use, including grading roads, building berms, digging trenches, etc.
Performs other related work as required.
Completion of high school, plus 2 years' experience in the operation of heavy motorized equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Possession of a valid North Carolina commercial driver’s license or able to obtain a North Carolina commercial driver’s license within 90 days of employment.
