Job summary

Vortex Companies, LLC is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our fast-growing infrastructure team. You will operate a range of machinery on earthwork projects, reading site plans and ensuring safety and quality from start to finish.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of heavy equipment experience, a valid license, and the ability to work outdoors in varied weather under OSHA guidelines. CDL is preferred and independence is valued.

Qualifications

  • Ability to safely operate multiple types of heavy construction equipment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment safety standards and operating procedures.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, rollers, skid steers, articulated trucks, and other machinery as assigned.
  • Perform excavation, grading, trenching, material movement, site preparation, and other earthwork activities.
  • Conduct pre-operational and post-operational inspections of equipment.
  • Identify, document, and report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, and safety concerns.
  • Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, blueprints, and project specifications.
  • Work closely with supervisors, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members to ensure efficient project completion.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fueling, lubricating, and cleaning equipment.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 3- 5 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate equipment controls using hands and feet.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and uneven terrain.
