Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must have valid PA driver's license with a clean record.
  • Must qualify for the Pennsylvania State Racing Commission license.
  • Less than high school education; or up to three months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; work in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tractors, horse ambulance, and pick up trucks to maintain Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course grounds.
  • Prepare equipment for use daily and adjust according to the weather.
  • Prepare track, paddock, and barn areas for racing by watering, harrowing, floating, fixing washouts, and placing pipes and cones.
  • Maintain safe speed when operating equipment to ensure safety of horses and riders.
  • Open and close track gates for other tractor drivers.
  • Check equipment for proper function after each shift.
  • Clean equipment (inside and out), make minor adjustments, and return to station; report major problems.
  • Shovel the board and outside fence.
  • Pass on information about track condition to supervisor/manager.
  • Assist with loading and unloading injured horses; maintain radio contact with Stewards.
  • Verify radios are working before the first race.

Responsibilities
  • Operate general equipment such as tractors, horse ambulance, and pick up trucks, for the purpose of maintaining Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course grounds in order to assist in reaching profitability, guest satisfaction, workforce strength, and compliance goals.
  • Prepare equipment for use each day and make proper equipment changes according to the weather.
  • Prepare track, paddock, and barn areas for racing by watering, harrowing, floating, fixing washouts, and placing pipes and cones when and wherever necessary to ensure proper training and racing conditions are met.
  • Must maintain the speed, when operating equipment, that will ensure the safety of the horses and riders.
  • Open and close track gates for other tractor drivers.
  • Check equipment for proper function after each shift.
  • Clean equipment (inside and out), make any minor adjustments, and return equipment to their proper station each night; report anything more than a minor problem to supervisor.
  • Shovel the board and outside fence.
  • Pass on any information as to the condition of the track to supervisor and/or department manager.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of the injured horses when requested by maintaining radio contact with the Stewards.
  • Verify working condition of the radios before the first race.
Qualifications
  • Less than high school education; or up to three months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have the ability to read a level and surveyor's scope.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have valid PA driver's license with a clean record.
  • Must qualify for the Pennsylvania State Racing Commission license.
Physical Demands
