Job summary

Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation in East Hartford, CT, seeks an Equipment Operator to manage earth-moving equipment, perform routine maintenance, and support other classifications when not operating heavy machinery. This full-time role requires a CDL B license, clean driving record, and the ability to work with limited supervision.

The position is safety-sensitive under DOT rules; pre-employment drug screening is required.

Qualifications

• Must understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Elementary knowledge of gasoline and diesel motors and automotive equipment.
• Some experience in operation and repair of construction & automotive equipment.
• Good degree of mechanical ability and knowledge of earth-moving equipment.
• CDL B license and good driving record.
• Aptitude and skill to operate all Distribution Division equipment and tools safely.
• Knowledge of the layout of streets within the Company territory.
• Duties of other classifications when not operating earth-moving equipment.

Responsibilities

• Learn operating routine of all earth-moving equipment used by the Company and attain entry-level proficiency within three months.
• Perform minor repairs and general maintenance of earth-moving equipment: greasing, oiling, refueling, and assisting with major repairs.
• Perform work of other classifications when not operating earth-moving equipment.
• Learn and assist in duties of higher classifications for promotion.
• Work in the field with limited supervision.
• Possibly handle hazardous waste; training provided to meet 40 CFR 265.16 requirements.
• Provide after-hours and weekend emergency coverage on a rotating basis (on-call).
• This is a DOT safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment drug screening.

HOURLY RATE RANGE: $41.86 – 49.00

Responsibilities

• Must learn operating routine of all earth-moving equipment used by the Company and must be capable of obtaining entry-level operating proficiency within three months.
• Is responsible for minor repairs and general maintenance of earth-moving equipment, including greasing, oiling, refueling, and assisting with other major repairs, as required.
• Performs work of other classifications when not operating earth-moving equipment.
• Learns and assists in duties of higher classifications as to qualify for promotion.
• Works in field at times without direct supervision.
• May involve handling hazardous waste. Training will be provided by the Company to meet requirements of 40 CFR 265.16.
• Any applicant transferring into the department or filling this position from the outside will be required to provide after-hours and weekend emergency coverage on a rotating basis (on-call coverage).

THIS IS A DOT SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION. ANY APPLICANT TRANSFERRING INTO THIS DEPARTMENT FROM A NON-SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION WILL BE REQUIRED TO PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREEN.
