Job summary

The City of Santee is seeking an Equipment Mechanic to service and repair a wide range of vehicles and power-driven equipment, including firefighting apparatus. This journey-level role requires the ability to work independently with limited instruction and to perform both major and minor repairs.

Responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, fabricating parts, and reading technical manuals.

Qualifications

• Three years of recent experience in automotive, light and heavy power-driven equipment repair.
• Experience with diesel and small engines.
• OSFM Fire Mechanic and ASE certifications are highly desirable.
• Must obtain OSFM Fire Mechanic Level 1 within the first two years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on light and heavy vehicles.
• Overhauls and repairs automobiles, light/heavy trucks, gasoline/diesel engines, and firefighting apparatus.
• Inspects and replaces parts such as bearings, seals, shocks, steering, valves, pistons.
• Diagnoses cooling, fuel and exhaust systems; repairs brakes, electrical and ignition systems, clutches, differentials.
• Tunes engines using standard testing equipment; reads manuals and schematics.
• Fabricates metal parts with welding and cutting equipment; performs preventive maintenance.
• Operates motor equipment in repair/servicing; maintains tools and workspace.
