  • Equipment Mechanic Assistant I: $61,235.20 – $74,422.40
  • Equipment Mechanic Assistant II: $67,225.60 – $81,640.00
Position Duties

The Fleet Management Division in the Public Works Department manages the city’s fleet of over 2,700 vehicles and equipment. The Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) performs inspections, communications, servicing, installation of electronic and electrical equipment, ordering parts, data entry, road testing, diagnosing problems, and making repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck, and heavy equipment. The position requires working various shift hours and overtime, with general supervision.

Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (Service)

This position schedules, services, inspects, and repairs city vehicles and equipment.

Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (Parts)

This position orders, receives, and issues automotive, truck, and equipment parts, researches and selects parts for issue, manages inventory, and uses the fleet database to track inventories.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Successful completion of high school, GED, or California Proficiency Certificate.
  • Equipment Mechanic Assistant I: Two (2) years of experience in maintenance of automotive equipment, including servicing vehicles, installing automotive components, or maintaining inventory.
  • Equipment Mechanic Assistant II: Four (4) years of experience in automotive equipment assistance, including at least two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience equivalent to the Equipment Mechanic Assistant I level.
Required Licensing

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required at all times. Some positions may require a valid State of California Class A or B driver’s license with endorsements.

Background Investigation Process

Eligible candidates must complete a Class C background packet. Successful completion and review will lead to hiring decisions.
